Tablet Academy Seminars

With mobile learning high on the agenda in schools, the Tablet Academy will be providing educators with free, hands-on advice within the Learning Through Technology Zone at the show,

With mobile learning high on the agenda in schools, the Education Show 2015 is joining forces with the ‘Tablet Academy’ to provide educators with free, hands-on advice at the NEC, Birmingham from 19 to 21 March 2015.

As one of the UK's leading education consultancy and teacher training organisations focusing solely on the use of tablets in schools, the ‘Tablet Academy’ will host the ‘Tablets Advice Hub’ feature, an area devoted to mobile learning as well as providing expert content in the ‘Learning through Technology’ theatre/workshop area at the Education Show 2015.Its team of teachers will be on-hand as part of the tablet feature, offering educators the chance to drop by at any point throughout the show to ask any questions or gather advice on mobile learning. Whether a school is looking to go down the 1:1 route, or is considering implementing BYOD, the Tablet Academy is inviting visitors to see and test a range of tablet devices in an educational context.

Therefore there is an ideal opportunity for you to showcase your mobile devices and classroom solutions to learning establishments who are making informed purchasing decisions.

Learning Through Technology Seminars

The following learning through technology seminars will be delivered by specialist teacher consultants with experience of embedding the use of mobile devices into lessons. Each session will involve 15 minutes of hands-on activities in order for delegates to experience the technology and solutions for themselves followed by a general discussion for those wishing to ask questions or talk through the content covered.

Trursday 19th March

10.00-10.30 Improving Numeracy and Literacy using the iPad (iPad)
Numeracy and literacy levels are a priority for all schools. This workshop will cover a range of pedagogical approaches to teaching with iPads to increase engagement and improve attainment. The session will cover teaching methods as well as a handful of tried and tested Apps available in the iOS App store.

10.30-11.00 OneNote in the classroom (iPad/Android/Windows)
Using OneNote Class Notebook Creator and Office 365 a digital notebook can be created and shared with every student in your class. This session will show you how you can use OneNote for collaborative group work, for sharing up-to-date resources with your class, and for a direct personal link to your student’s digital exercise books. 

11.00-.11.30 Using the Windows tablets to engage with S.E.N students (Windows)
Learn how Windows tablets can improve accessibility to learning for students with special educational needs. Delivered by a S.E.N specialist this session will cover how features built into the operating system can improve engagement before demonstrating a selection of Apps/Software solutions to improve attainment.

11.30-12.00 -'Using tablets to connect physical and digital learning' 
Join TTS on their programming journey taking you from early years programming right the way through to KS3, from remote control cars to Raspberry Pi Robots! This session will also explain how to use tablets with TTS' new Bluetooth floor robot, Blue-Bot, connecting physical and digital learning by creating algorithms on the tablet and seeing Blue-Bot perform it before your very eyes!

12.00-12.30 Delivering the Primary Computing Curriculum on the iPad (iPad)
See how the iPad can help teachers meet the needs of delivering the computing curriculum, taking students from the basics of understanding programming to creating more complex work using code. Within the session delegates will explore Apps designed specifically for delivering computing and learn how to take standard software and adapting its use to explain algorithms etc.

12.30-13.00 Google Apps in education (Android)
Explore the current Google offering for education seeing how it enhances everyday teaching and learning activities. The session will focus on an android platform but covers many functions available across all devices. Included in the hands-on activities session will be an activity allowing for collaborative working on a single document. 

13.00-13.30 Delivering the Computing Curriculum in Secondary Schools (Windows)
See how you can stay ahead of your students in the digital world they feel so comfortable in. This session will provide a taste of what is possible from creating Xbox Games to programming drones to fly around the school playground.

13.30-14.00 Assessing without levels using tablet technology (iPad/Android/Windows)
The use of tablets in assessment has become a grey area. This session uses a device agnostic browser-based technology known as eZapp to demonstrate how using mobile technology can make planning, assessment and tracking part of the lesson fast. With access to progress reports for any class, focus group or individual child available at the touch of a button Ofsted visits become easy to manage.

14.00-14.30 Delivering Immersive learning experiences using tablets (iPad/Android/Windows)
With the introduction of mobile devices delivering immersive lessons is more achievable than ever. Immersing students into a story, atmosphere or situation helps them engage with the learning content. Tablets allow students to record their thoughts, findings and feelings before presenting their understanding of the subject matter as a learning outcome in a digital format.  

14.30-15.00 Using the iPad to engage with S.E.N students (iPad)
Learn how iPads can improve accessibility to learning for students with special educational needs. Delivered by a S.E.N specialist the session will cover how features built into the operating system can improve engagement before demonstrating a selection of Apps/Software solutions to improve attainment. 

15.00 -15.30 Classroom Orchestration in a mobile learning environment (Windows/Android)
Controlling a class where each child has a device can be challenging. This workshop is based on using the Classroom Management too ‘ NetSupport’. With this software teachers can monitor student tablets on their teaching device to assist in ensuring learners stays on track by providing access to the applications, websites and resources needed to complete the lesson, removing unwanted distractions.

 

Friday 20th March

10.30-11.00 Using in EYFS and KS1 (iPad)
iPads have become a popular solution for EYFS and KS1 teachers. This session covers how the devices can help monitor and track student progress, deliver 1-2-1 assessment activities and engage the class as a whole. The workshop will also include options on   involving parents in their childs learning.

This workshop examines the use of tablets within the classroom as a sharing and collaborative tool.  It is now possible to use iPads, Android and Windows tablets to wirelessly connect to your Whiteboard or Touch Screen.

eBooks combine text, images, video and sound into a digital book providing a great platform for students to record their findings and present their learning. eBooks also provide an opportunity for teachers to share digital worksheets that students can complete throughout a project. This session will use Book Creator on iPads and Android devices and CreateBook on Windows tablets.

14.30-15.00 Flipping the Classroom with Office Mix (Windows)
Discover how a new free plugin for PowerPoint 2013 provides teachers with functions similar to popular Apps such as Explain Everything. Office Mix is a new way to tell your story with voice, video, inking, screen recording and interactive magic. It allows you to take your existing presentations and create video files with interactive activities that your students can engage with through any web browser. Perfect for flipping the classroom.
